into the allegations of irregularities
0:11
in Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s more than
0:13
eight billion dollar land swap aimed at
0:15
building housing on the Greenbelt around
0:17
Toronto this investigation was announced
0:19
as we learned of this sudden resignation
0:21
of Ryan Amato who is the chief of staff
0:24
for Ontario’s housing Minister Amato was
0:26
the staffer responsible for choosing
0:28
which sites would be opened for
0:31
development for a closer look at this
0:32
investigation we’re joined by lawyer

Tanya Walker good morning to you nice to
0:36
see you
0:37
good morning to you thank you for having
0:38
me so the RCMP says it’s assessing
0:41
whether or not to investigate this land
0:43
swap after it was referred by the by
0:45
Ontario’s provincial police why is this
0:48
with the rcmpm what are they assessing
0:51
well why this is with your CMP is
0:54
because the Ontario Provincial Police
0:55
asked your CMP to take over the Ontario
0:59
Provincial Police said that they wanted
1:01
to avoid any perceived conflicts of
1:04
interest however particulars about the
1:06
perceived conflicts of interest were not
1:08
provided so I would expect our RCMP to
1:12
determine whether or not any criminal
1:13
charges would be laid as a result of the
1:16
report that was released by the auditor
1:18
general I want to expand on that a
1:20
little bit because what will the rcmb
1:21
investigation likely focus on
1:24
uh I would I would believe that the
1:26
investigation would focus on what could
1:29
lead to criminal charge such as bribery
1:31
so you would need evidence that
1:34
um any of the developers bribed any uh
1:37
government officials and um that might
1:40
be difficult to prove you need it in
1:42
writing
1:43
um to definitely say you can prove this
1:45
Beyond A Reasonable Doubt so you need
1:46
access to records emails
1:48
um any type of documentation to
1:50
substantiate this and maybe even
1:52
Financial records to see if there were
1:54
any deposits made in government
1:56
officials account bank account during
1:58
the time that these land developments
2:02
were rendered or given permission to to
2:06
develop will that be difficult to access
2:08
this this paper trail
2:10
I’m not too sure I would think that the
2:13
RCMP would be able to ask for this
2:15
documentation or get it themselves I’m
2:18
not sure if uh it would be easy to
2:21
determine whether or not uh Financial
2:23
deposit a large one would uh mean that
2:27
someone was right it’s a bit of an
2:29
uphill battle to demonstrate this and
2:32
prove this Beyond a reasonable doubt
2:33
that’s what that’s what I believe what
2:35
could this mean for Ontario Premier Doug
2:36
Ford
2:38
well it would have to be evidence that
2:40
Doug Ford uh knew or should have known
2:44
um that this happened
2:46
um and also in terms of bribery that
2:48
Doug Ford was also bribed I think that
2:51
would be difficult to demonstrate
2:53
um because if there’s a donation made to
2:55
his party it doesn’t necessarily mean
2:57
that there was bribery so I I believe
3:00
there will be a little bit of a
3:01
challenge to prove this this story is
3:03
just starting
3:04
sorry I forgot to mention that uh the
3:07
charges for bribing um an official it
3:10
could be uh 14 up to 14 years in jail
3:13
and an undetermined fine if someone is
3:16
convicted of doing this well we’ll watch
3:19
and see how this plays out Tanya Walker
3:20
thank you
